Daruma Dolls are a traditional Japanese doll based off the Bodhidharma, the founder of Zen Buddhism. The doll is a symbol of good luck, when purchased, patrons paint in one eye with a wish or a goal in mind, then fill in the second eye when the wish/goal is accomplished.

This tradition derives from the legend that the Bodhidharma peeled off his own eyelids so he would stop falling asleep during meditation.

This Daruma features multiple eyes which can be read in multiple ways. The first design was intended to resemble to keep dreaming, keep setting goals and keep filling the eyes in. The alternative meaning is that once one desire is filled, another will always be there to replace to it, creating a never ending cycle of yearning.
