YUGEN is Ineffable

The Kanji “Yugen” is a Japanese aesthetic to describe that which is indescribable. The feeling when the thought is on the tip of the tongue. Often referring to Beauty, ideals, the interconnected nature of things and most of all the fleeting moment. The direct translation would be “deep” “mysterious” or the subtly profound grace, not obvious. My own interpretation of the concept comes to the appreciation and beauty of suffering (in a non-sadistic manner) but at the root causation in which lies impermanence and desire. The crackled paint is a nod to the art of Kintsugi where broken pottery would be repaired with filling gold in the cracks, a philosophy embracing the flawed and imperfect.
